Common Issues You May Be Facing With Your Roof

Constant exposure to the various weather elements will take a toll on your home’s roof eventually. Water stains, missing shingles, and indoor temperature fluctuations are all signs that you have a problem with your roof. It is imperative to watch for the following red flags and make sure that you act before the issue has a chance to get worse.

Water Spots Inside the House

Roof leaks tend to be a problem due to the fact that the majority of homeowners do not realize they even have one until they notice obvious damage inside the house, and by this time, the leak is already at an advanced stage. The source of the leak tends to be in a completely different area of the home from where the water damage appears, which can make the problem that much more complicated. Generally, water travels along the roof panels prior to dripping onto and soaking into the insulation, leaving obvious water spots on the ceiling. Though water spots in the inside of your home do not always indicate a roof leak, it is recommended to schedule an inspection with a professional to make sure.

Excessive Granules in the Downspout

On brand-new roof, you do not need to worry about granules that have made their way to the gutters, since they are simply loose granules that fell off the shingles during the installation process. However, if granules are falling off of an old roof, it may be indicative of deteriorating shingles. These granules are designed to protect the shingles from the harmful UV rays of the sun, so when the granules begin to fall off, the shingles will become brittle and end up cracking. If you have noticed that your gutters aren’t as efficient as usual, it may be due to an accumulation of granules or other debris in the gutters that may be blocking the proper flow of water.

Missing Shingles

If you have noticed that your roof has dark, patchy areas, it may be a sign that there are some shingles missing. This may be a result of a damaged sealant strip or small animals running around the roof. Shingles generally have sealant on the underside of them that ensures they remain in place. As soon as shingles get old and brittle, the sealant will begin to fail and then the shingles will become loose.

If you begin to notice any of the aforementioned problems, you will want to get in touch with us at Structure Remodeling as soon as possible to make certain that your home is constantly protected.
