Kitchen and Bathroom Remodeling: What’s the Focus Today?
At the beginning of every year, the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA) compiles and releases a report to the public detailing trends for kitchen and bath design. This report includes information about what is popular regarding designs, finishes and colors in these areas of the home. So, if you’re looking to perform a remodel on your kitchen or bathroom, it may be a good idea to check out this report. Here are some of the top trends that were reported this year that you may want to consider for your own remodel:
In the Kitchen:
- The most popular kitchen colors are gray and white, although two-tone is becoming very popular as well.
- Wood cabinets tend to be the most popular. However, metal cabinets (regardless of color – stainless steel, black and even gold!) are quickly gaining momentum amongst homeowners.
- Quartz still remains the top choice for kitchen countertops.
- When designing cabinets, built-in styles and clean lines are definitely the most popular. Though these have a bit of a contemporary appearance to them, they’re popular because of the rising technologies that are being installed in kitchens today.
- Speaking of kitchen technology, these are becoming more popular this year with steam ovens, induction cooktops and appliances that connect to the internet.
In the Bathroom:
- Just as in the kitchen, gray and white remain popular color choices. However, millennials may lean toward purple, violet and blue hues.
- The jury is out on whether they want to remove the tub and have only a shower or they want to include a free-standing tub in the bathroom space.
- Ceramic tile and laminate flooring (as long as it is high-quality and can stand up to the environment) are the two most popular choices for bathroom flooring.
- Safety and comfort are two priorities in the bathroom, so shower seats, no-threshold showers, shower lighting, etc. are popular choices.
- Since going green is gaining momentum these days, you want to try to save water in the bathroom by installing low-flow, water-saving faucets and toilets.
